Solvo's core competence: providing tools for transporter assays in ADMETox research

SOLVO offers drug discovery products and services relevant to many therapeutic areas.
Our in vitro efflux transporter assays and cell lines expressing various uptake transporter proteins answer important questions regarding the interactions between drug compounds and a wide array of transporters.
Moreover, SOLVO Biotechnology offers membrane vesicles prepared from Sf9 (Spodoptera frugiperda ovarian) cells or mammalian cell lines.

The membrane vesicles contain a wide range of different transporters and can be utilized in different assays.
SOLVO Biotechnology provides four different solutions for ABC (xenobiotic) and uptake transporter assays to be used in drug discovery:
  • Membrane Preparations - to be used for ATPase Assay and Vesicular Transport Assay (direct uptake) measurements
  • Fee-For-Service Screening
  • Sublicense for the Calcein Assay
  • Custom-Made Expression and Screening Systems

SOLVO's mainstream products can be used for:
  1. Expression of a wide array of human ABC transporters (MDR1, MDR2/3, MRP1, MRP2, MRP3, MRP4, MRP5, MRP6, MXR, BSEP and others) and rodent (rat, mouse) transporters in various expression systems (e.g. baculovirus-based insect cell)
  2. Functional characterization of proteins (ATPase, transport and binding data)
  3. Identification of new drug targets on ABC transporters.
  4. Development of various cell lines expressing a range of pharmacologically relevant uptake transporter proteins

Speeding up drug discovery and development

These solutions can significantly speed up the drug discovery and development process. Efflux and uptake transporter assay results - together with physicochemical data and/or monolayer efflux test results - provide an ADME prediction at relatively low cost before the compounds would enter expensive preclinical animal testing. Therefore, application of this technology is a step towards the "fail fast, fail cheap" drug discovery and development philosophy. Another added advantage of our assays over animal testing is that it allows for monitoring interaction of drugs and drug candidates with human proteins.
