Calcein assay®, Hoechst assay (Dye transport assays)

Calcein assay® and the Hoechst assay are indirect inhibitory whole-cell assays that provide information on any interaction between the ABC transporter (MDR1/P-gp (ABCB1) or MRP1 (ABCC1) and BCRP (ABCG2)) and the test compound by measuring the change in the transport of calcein AM or Hoechst dye.
